Sydney Holidays

Print Version Screen Version

Let your Sydney holidays begin! Sydney is the home of the famous Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge (affectionately called The Coathanger because of its shape) and Circular Quay, where the ferries that roam Sydney Harbour dock. Fill your days with sun, sand and shopping then dance the night away at some of Sydney's fabulous nightclubs.

Oxford Street is the place to be, buzzing with cafes and clubs which are a mixture of straight, gay and mixed. It is the hub of Sydney's social scene while the renowned Kings Cross, well worth a visit, is reserved for the slightly seedier side of life.

If you are 18 or over, then a good time is never far away in Sydney. Hit The Rocks, the oldest part of town where the famous six o'clock swill saw the locals swarm the pubs for a drink before heading home. Now it is filled with designer clad trendies drinking and dancing the night away in fashionable clubs.

Remember there is a strict dress code in most of Sydney's nightclubs. Dress up and join the queue for a night of dancing and drinking and a whole lot of fun. The vibrant music scene starts at the Hopetoun Hotel in Bourke Street or the Annandale Hotel on Parramatta Road. This is where the new bands head, feeling their way in the music world. You will find some cool Jazz in The Basement on Reiby Place.

During the day, climb the Harbour Bridge for spectacular views over the Harbour and the CBD. It is 50 storeys high so take your camera. Darling Harbour is a former dock where now you can relax with a coffee and watch the passing parade or shop in some of Sydney's finest stores.

Castlereagh Street is full of designer boutiques or laze your days away with some retail therapy at the Chifley Plaza and the MLC Centre.  Explore the Australian designers such as Collette Dinnigan and Lisa Ho at the Queen Victoria Building.

Join in the fun at Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in February. It all happens at the costume parade and nothing is left out at the all night party that follows.

There is always something to do and some action to enjoy on your Sydney holidays.
