New Zealand's largest ski area, with two resorts situated on either side of an active Volcano in the centre of the North Island.
Mountain Overview
The three closest villages to Mt Ruapehu are National Park Village, Whakapapa and Ohakune. The Mt Ruapehu area contains mountains, deserts, lakes, active volcanoes, rich farm land and pristine rivers, including the Whanganui River.
The parks are Dual World Heritage-listed Tongariro National Park and Whanganui National Park.

Snow Options
Skiing; boarding; heli skiing. Back country and glacier skiing accessable from lifts (no hiking!).
Night life
If you want to sample the local nightlife, Ohakune Village is a lively choice. During the winter months, the town's bars, cafes and chalets fill with skiers and the entertainment keeps going into the wee hours.
