Australia Ski Holidays!

For a country more widely known for its barren, parched deserts, miles of sandy beaches and bronzed bodies, the concept to ski Australia may seem a little alien to visitors and residents alike. However for those wanting to ski Australia and try something a bit different 'down under', there are a few great resorts to head to that can offer many levels of skiing.

To ski Australia in style, head to New South Wales and probably the most famous resort Thredbo, about 500km out of Sydney. The resort sits at just over 1300m and boasts Australia's greatest vertical. Designed mainly for an intermediate skier, most of the mountain is reachable off the two lower chair lifts and the lower areas have plenty of snow-making equipment to help out even in a bad season. The village has a great commercial centre with some great restaurants for every budget and some very badly named venues and clubs – make sure you check out the 'Helen Keller' bar.

Coming in close behind Thredbo is Perisher which has the largest resort area to ski Australia and the most number of lifts – you can ski all day without having to catch the same lift twice. It also has a higher base than most other resorts and many secluded spots but some of the runs are a bit short. There are also dozens of places to eat, Front Valley for night-skiing and Fusion Parks and Pipes for those wanting to try something a bit experimental.

To ski Australia over in Victoria, Hotham has some incredible black runs available for the expert skier including 'The Canyon' and the 'Wall Of Death'. There is also a unique seven minute helicopter ride that links Hotham with Falls Creek and gives visitors four to five hours in totally different terrain.

Falls Creek itself holds the most reliable snow in Victoria so ski Australia here with a wide-range of runs, some great areas for beginners, an excellent snow-making system and is rarely crowded. Whilst neither Falls Creek or Hotham boast huge amounts of nightlife, there are some great pubs, bars and restaurants in both centres.

Ski Australia offers a unique and different view of an amazing country without a koala, kangaroo or wallaby in sight.
