Our transport for the first half of today is a traditional cyclo, a three wheeled bicycle with a carriage at the front for the passenger to sit in, while the driver uses pedal power to power us along. This allows us to take in the sights, sounds and smells of Ho Chi Minh City without the barrier of a car window or the sound of an engine, very environmentally friendly.

Our journey takes us through Tao Dan Park to the War Remnants museum, originally opened in September 1975, the museum displays old military equipment and other related items from the Vietnam War. In the courtyard we will find some larger exhibits including a F5A fighter and a UH1-Huey helicopter.

From here we continue our journey past the Reunification Palace, previously referred to as the Presidential Palace, it is the sight of the official South Vietnamese surrender on April 30th, 1975. We will not go into the palace however our local guide will provide you with information and a chance to take come photographs. Leaving our cyclos and cyclo drivers behind we walk to the Notre Dame Cathedral, built by the French during the colonial era. It and our next destination, the General Post Office, are fine examples of architecture from the colonial period.

We meet our cyclos again and ride to the Saigon Opera House and City Hall, situated in the centre of Ho Chi Minh city where scenes from the movie "The Quiet American" were filmed, not far from the Opera House we will find the Continental Hotel where Graham Greene, amongst other famous journalists and writers, called home during their stays in Vietnam.

We leave our cyclos behind at the intersection of Ton That Dam St & Huynh Thuc Khang St and dive into a real local food market. Continuing we explore Antique shop street and shoe street. Our final visit for the day is the Ben Thanh market where your local guide will assist you in getting a taxi back to your hotel or alternatively you are free to continue exploring the area.

Why not practice your bargaining skills in the Ben Thanh market. The markets original location was close to the Ben Nghe River and the old fort of Gia Dinh was where it derived its name (Ben meaning "pier" and Thanh meaning "Fort"). The market was destroyed in 1859 during the French invasion of Saigon. It was rebuilt and later moved to its present location in 1899. At the end of the trip you are free to continue exploring the area or your guide will assist you in getting a taxi back to your hotel.

In the West of the city lies Wat Suan Dok built by King Kuena, the large white chedi towers above the numerous small ones and contains the ashes of the Lanna King and the remains of many generations of the old Chiang Mai Royal family. A short distance from Suan Dok Gate (Western Gate) is Wat Phra Singh first built during the reign of Phra Chao Kham Fu (1328-1335). The temple’s compound includes the Lai Kam Chapel and the abbot of this important temple is the head of the local religious administration.

Lying smack in the heart of the city (almost right in the middle of the square-walled city) is Wat Chedi Luang, the large Chedi (the biggest in the city) behind the viharn was constructed by King Saen Muang Ma around 1401. Originally 90 meters high, it is now a mere 40 meters as the result of an earthquake in 1545. A small building near the main entrance encloses the “Sao Intakin” (spirit of the city). Last but not least is Wat Chiang Man, lying in the Northern part of the old walled city; it is the oldest temple within the city walls. Constructed by King Mengrai (1296-1311) the founder of Chiangmai, it is said that the king spent his last years in this temple.

Drive around the old city to see the moat surrounding it and the ruins of the city gates. Then visit the largest central market, Worarot Market, alive with its daily hustle and bustle. Exotic fresh fruits, preserved food, local delicacies, clothes galore, flowers and other nick knacks, all at reasonable prices.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind we journey 2.5 hours west towards the Cambodian border bound for the Cu Chi Tunnels. Before arriving at the tunnels visit some local friends and gain an insight into local life in the area, both past and present. Learn about their lives, culture and customs and get an insight into the recent past through local eyes.

Continue onto the Cu Chi tunnels were built by local fighters during the Indochina conflict as a base from which the Viet Cong could operate from close to the Southern Vietnamese capital. The location proved of significant strategic importance, at the end of the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail and within striking distance of the southern Vietnam capital.

Initial construction started in 1948 when the Viet Minh required somewhere to hide from French air attacks and by 1965, the tunnel complex was estimated to consist of 200km's of tunnels. It included, hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens and sleeping quarters. Life was difficult for the inhabitants and to protect against outside intruders bobby traps were laid throughout the complex.

Today the Vietnamese government have preserved approximately 75 kilometres of the tunnels as a memorial park, in some areas tunnels have been widened and low powered lights installed so that western tourists can now fit through the complex. Our local guide will take us on a fascinating trip around the Cu Chi Tunnels where we learn more about the conditions the people lived in, the hardships they faced and the amazing ingenuity employed to maintain life in the tunnels.

We walk past huge bomb craters , evidence of the heavy bombing campaigns in the region during the Indochina conflict, discover hidden entrances right beneath your feet, wander past tiny little chimneys in the ground that dispersed smoke from the underground kitchens, sample some of the simple cuisine that local fighters would have survived on and have an opportunity to venture into the tunnels and explore the complex. Following our step back in modern history we return to the chaos of Ho Chi Minh City.

Dive in to the sights, sounds and smells of our bustling city on our Hanoi sightseeing tour. With our local guide we start our trip with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh complex on the site where he declared Vietnam's independence in 1945, and see the reverence with which Vietnamese people treat their "Uncle Ho".

Other sites that we will visit with our local guide include: - House 54 - Ho Chi Minh lived and worked here between 1954 and 1958 - Stilt House - Ho Chi Minh moved from House 54 to the Stilt House in 1958, and worked and lived there until his death in 1969. Presidential Palace - originally built by the French at the start of the 20th Century to house the French Governor-General of Indochina. Following his "Declaration of Independence" Ho Chi Minh refused to move into the building due to it's connection with the countries colonial past. - One Pillar Pagoda - a unique wooden structure originally built in 1049 by Emperor Ly Thai Thong of the Ly Dynasty. The current structure is a replica of the original.

Continuing on our Hanoi tour through the city we drive to the Temple of Literature. Originally built in honour of Confucius by Emperor Ly Thanh Thong in 1070, a university was added to the grounds six years later. The university provided educations to the royal family and children of the aristocracy or "mandarins".

The University remained here until Emperor Gia Long moved the countries administrative capital from Hanoi to Hue around the end of the 18th century and start of the 19th century. After our visit to the Temple of Literature, we head to a local restaurant for a local lunch - "Pho" or Noodle Soup is a popular choice amongst locals.

After lunch visit the Museum of Ethnology, to learn more about the cultural diversity of Vietnams ethnic minorities. Established by the Vietnamese government in 1997, the museum provides us with a fascinating insight into the diverse cultures, customs and lifestyles of the 54 ethnic groups that inhabit Vietnam.

We finish our ultimate Hanoi travel experience with a walking tour of Hanoi's hectic old quarter. See how Hanoians live out their lives on the streets, sitting and eating together on the sidewalks and bartering for wares. Visit the local Hang Be or Dong Xuan local markets, before finishing with refreshments at a bia hoi where you have the opportunity to swap stories with local people eager to practise their language skills.

At the end of our Hanoi sightseeing tour, you are free to continue exploring the area or your guide will assist you in getting a taxi back to your hotel.

Beginning our Bangkok tour at Ratchawong Pier on the Chao Praya River we step back in time to the old markets in Yaowarat, located in the heart of the vibrant Chinatown district. The original Chinese citizens were traders living in the village of Bangkok before it became the capital of the Kingdom of Siam.

The land that now occupies the Grand Palace belonged to the traders. When King Rama I moved the capital from Ayuthaya to Bangkok over 200 years ago the community was asked to move to its current location. From the pier our walking tour continues along Song Wat Road, which is bordered by old business buildings and warehouses - most of which are still operating today. We emerge in the plastic and leather product quarter on Yaowa Phanit Road.

The next stop on your Bangkok sightseeing tour is a 100 year old coffee shop on Pha Sai Road, a coffee and snack is included in our trip, an opportunity to relax and take in the atmosphere.

Rejuvenated we continue to Issarnuparb Road and a market specialising in Chinese religious products, fresh food including seafood. In the evening Yaowaraj Road becomes a sea of street stalls, collectively becoming one large food bazaar. The food options range from street stalls to the finest Chinese restaurants. Part of our experience will be taking a seat with our guide are try some charcoal grilled seafood on the street.

Following dinner we continue on foot to the Saphan Put Night Market, where we find a vast array of clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, second hand collections and antiques on sale.

If you prefer to have a painting of yourself, you can sit down with artists on the street. In no time you will have a portrait of yourself to take home as a souvenir. The final stop of the night is at Talat Pak Khlong ('talad' meaning market), the largest wholesale flower and vegetable market of Bangkok. Night-time is a great time to see Pakklong Talad as the street is covered with a colourful flower display. We begin our Bangkok tour with a walk down to the Chao Praya River (meaning River of Kings) where we board a long tail boat for a journey along the river and into the khlongs (canals) of Bangkok. In centuries gone by Bangkok was often referred to as the 'Venice of the East' with a vast network of khlongs through the city which were utilised as a transport network.

With the passage of time many of these khlongs have been filled in and converted to roads for more modern forms of transport. In the Thonburi area of Bangkok many of the khlongs survive, the boat trip will provide you with an insight into the lives of people who live along the khlongs which seems a world away from the chaotic streets of Bangkok. Our next stop on our day tour in Bangkok is Wat Po which derives its name from the original Wat Potaram, in 1801 the temple was renamed Wat Phra Chetuphon.

The temple is the centre of the Buddhist religion in Thailand, the countries first university and is still a centre of learning for traditional Thai massage and medicines. Founded in the 17th century, Wat Po is the oldest Buddhist temple in Bangkok. Our guide will take us on a tour through the temple complex.

The Grand Palace completes our Bangkok day tour. Built in 1782 in time for the coronation of King Rama I, the Grand Palace served as the official residence of the King of Siam, the Royal Court and administrative seat of government until the early 1900's. Despite no longer being the official residence of the king the Grand Palace is still very much the spiritual centre of the nation and used for various ceremonies during the year.

Included in the trip will be a visit to Wat Phra Kaew which houses the revered Emerald Buddha. Our local guide will take us through the grounds of the palace providing a fascinating insight into this majestic place. On our boat ride our local guide will take us to visit an island with lush tropical gardens where we have a chance to sample tropical fruit. Our Hanoi tour begins with a 1 hour drive from the hectic capital of Hanoi to Bat Trang ceramic village.  Here our local guide will take us through the production process in the village, we have a chance to visit the workshops and have a look at the kilns used for firing the ceramic pottery.

Continuing we visit the community house of Dinh Bang (approximately 45 minutes). Traditionally all villages in Vietnam had a "community house" in the centre of the village, it was where all decisions regarding the village were made, it connected everyone to the village and was the core of Vietnamese culture.

With few "communal houses" remaining in Vietnam today, the Dinh Bang communal house provides us with an interesting insight into Vietnam's past, and something you must see on your Hanoi travels.   Not far from the communal house lives a family who make lacquer ware. Our local guide will assist us in learning more about the process and translate for those of us who may have questions for the family, a special experience you won't find on other Hanoi sightseeing tours.

Our next stop is the Do Temple to experience some local Hanoi history. Do Temple or Den Do Temple honours the 8 Ly emperors of the Ly Dynasty. During their reign Vietnam experienced an era of prosperity and independence. The first emperor of the dynasty Ly Cong Uan founded Hanoi in 1010. Other achievements during this enlightened period included the construction of the Temple of Literature and first University in Vietnam. The temple was built in 1030 by Emperor Ly Thai Tong to worship his father Emperor Ly Thai To who died in 1028. Over the centuries the temple has been upgraded and restored on a number of occasions. Unfortunately the temple was damaged in 1952 during the French war and was restored in 1989 to the original architecture from the 17th century.

In the middle of a lake situated at the front of the temple there is a two story, eight roofed house which floats on water and is used as a stage for water puppet shows. On March 15th each year there is a festival honouring the 8 emperors of the Ly dynasty.

We head the small township of Tu Son for lunch. The restaurant has simple dishes for us to choose and is all genuine local food. Sampling some local village dishes is a real special Hanoi travel experience.

Following lunch we visit the village of Dong Ky, a traditional wood carving village. Our Hanoi cultural tour takes us through a beautiful rural setting of rice paddies with plenty of opportunities to stop for photo opportunities.

We will be dropped at the beginning of the village for our visit, our local guide will take us through the village to meet the people, learn about their craft and lifestyles.   We return to Hanoi by private vehicle as we finish our Hanoi tour experience.

Hong Kong is packed full of fascinating markets, and you'll discover the best of them on this unique walking tour. Kick things off on a fragrant note at the Flower Market. This vibrant and colourful street market consists of more than 50 shops and is a jungle of exotic blossoms, luck-bringing houseplants and sweet scents. Next, it's onto the nearby Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, a charming traditional Chinese-style garden with over 70 songbird stalls, interesting courtyards and several moon gates.

Soak up the peaceful surrounds and listen to the sound of thousands of birds - it's easy to forget about the crazy city streets that lie just outside the gates. Head back into the streets, walking to Goldfish Street, where locals buy goldfish and other exotic fish from around the world. Discover why the goldfish is the preferred pet in Hong Kong and how these small fish are said to bring lucky feng shui.

Visit the popular Ladies Market, famed for its bargain-priced clothes, bags and accessories. Perhaps try out your bargaining stills, otherwise, admire the market's setting deep within Mong Kok. This is the world's most densely populated neighbourhood with over 130,000 people per square kilometre Stroll down Nathan Road, passing by the newly built 5-star Langham Place hotel and mall, before reaching Shanghai Street.

Glimpse what 1950s and 60s Hong Kong was like in this street, which was once famous for selling everything from traditional wedding clothes to ancestral offerings. Head into the Yau Ma Tei fruit market, and call in next door to the Yau Ma Tei Theatre, the oldest existing and once largest theatre in Kowloon. Call by the world-famous Jade Market, which has more than 400 hawkers, and learn about how locals believe jade can ward off health hazards and bad feng shui.

The final stop on this walking tour of Hong Kong's markets is a visit to the Temple Street Night Market. See the city's working class culture first-hand as you stroll through the city's busiest flea market. End the tour with a visit to a feng shui advisor, fortune teller or trying some of the tasty treats from one of the many roadside dai pai dong restaurants.

Markets are the cornerstone of Hong Kong's history and present day identity, so it is only appropriate that this Hong Kong tour begins with an exploration of some of the city's oldest and most unique markets. The foundation of Hong Kong's traditional trade and fishing harbour industry, markets are an excellent way to identify with Hong Kong's humble, hardworking past, as we will see in the Western Market, the Ginseng and Bird Nest trading hubs, and the Herbal Medicine Quarter.

The tour follows the trail of traditional Hong Kong street shops, as we make our way to Hollywood Road, the centre of Chinese antiques trading. Over a hundred antiques shop line Hollywood Road selling everything from Ming vases to Han Dynasty war horse potteries. As we venture further into Hong Kong's market history, we visit Cat Street, originally home to the city's black market, now an open-air curio market.

Heading into Tai Ping Shan, it's as though you've done a time warp - the shops and galleries are new and contemporary, and the culture is decidedly more Western and international, representing Hong Kong's shift to an expat community led by international business. The combination of European style influences and traditional Hong Kong streetscapes has created some fascinating neighbourhoods in SoHo and NoHo, providing a unique narrative and experience for visitors.

A ride up the 800-metre long Central-Mid-Levels Escalators, the world's longest outdoor escalator system, is a highlight on this Hong Kong tour, as it is for most visitors to the city. It transports you through a district known for being one of the best examples of traditional and modern life coming together in Hong Kong. As we make our way to Central, we pass through Graham Street and its wet market that has been continuously operating for over 160 years.

Counter that with our arrival in Central, which is dominated by modern skyscrapers that represent Hong Kong's new life of riches, as an integral international financial hub. As a consequence, Hong Kong's modern identity includes posh business clubs, swanky shopping malls, and impressively constructed office towers, yet retaining traditional elements, such as Feng Shui oriented art and architecture.

Hong Kong is a city in its own class, where tradition and culture have merged full speed with modernity and international influences. From Rags to Riches, this Hong Kong tour will excite your senses, pique your curiosity, and leave you fascinated at how it has transitioned so seamlessly.

Witness the extreme urbanisation of Hong Kong as you stand on this site that was once part of the shoreline, but is now very-much inland. Head back towards Central, learning about the buildings that once made up the city's administration centre, including the Central police station compound and the Victorian Prison Compound. Drop by the Fringe Club, housed in the colonial Dairy Farm Building, and famous for its alternative performances and displays by up-and-coming artists.

Stroll down the Duddell Street Steps, passing Gas Lamps as you head over to the Court of Final Appeal Building. Call by nearby Flagstaff House, the onetime residence of the Commander of the British Forces in Hong Kong, and now home to an impressive display of antique tea ware.

Next it's on to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Wan Chai waterfront, made famous as the place where the 1997 Hong Kong sovereignty handover ceremony took place. Admire the Forever Blooming Bauhinia sculpture, a gift from the People's Republic of China to commemorate the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR. With our local guide we start our Hanoi cultural tour bright and early with a walk to visit  Hoan Kiem Lake (or "Lake of the Restored Sword") to experience early morning Hanoi.

Hanoi history and legend has it that in the mid 15th century the gods provided the Emperor Le Thai To a magical sword to defeat the Ming dynasty Chinese invaders. Following the victory the emperor was boating on the lake when a giant tortoise reared up and took the sword, returning it to its rightful owners. Today the lake is a gathering place for the residence of Hanoi doing their morning exercise.

For those wanting to interact during our Hanoi tour we can join in on the morning activities such as tai chi. After a energetic start to the day we enjoy a traditional local breakfast - "real flavour of Pho" followed by a Vietnamese coffee at a roof top cafe in Hanoi's old quarter overlooking the Hoan Kiem Lake.

Our local guide will then take us to a family run Vietnamese restaurant for a cooking class where the chef will introduce a traditional Vietnamese kitchen and the finer points of cooking local food, and is something you can't find on other Hanoi tours. Our first step in our cooking school is a walk to Hang Be food market to learn about Vietnamese cooking ingredients, from hot chilli to fresh vegetables and meats.

Once back at the restaurant our chef with the help of our local guide will teach us to cook a number of special Vietnamese dishes...no Hanoi travel experience is complete without tasting some local specialties. We will learn skills to take home with us to impress our friends. Following our lesson we sit down to a feast. At the end of our Hanoi cultural tour you are free to continue exploring the area or your guide will assist you in getting a taxi back to your hotel.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind we journey 2.5 hours into the countryside bound for the Cao Dai temple in Tay Ninh district.  First stop will be at a local family for home cooked lunch. After the lunch, we time our visit for the noon ceremony at the temples which provides an insight to this interesting religion.

Founded in Vietnam in the 1920's, Cao Daoism borrows elements from Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism and Confucianism and blends them together in an effort to make the perfect religion. Cao Dai means "high place or abode"   Following visit of Cao Dai ceremony, we continue to the Cu Chi Tunnels.

The Cu Chi tunnels were built by local fighters during the Indochina conflict as a base from which the Viet Cong could operate from close to the Southern Vietnamese capital.

We walk past huge bomb craters, evidence of the heavy bombing campaigns in the region during the Indochina conflict, discover hidden entrances right beneath your feet, wander past tiny little chimneys in the ground that dispersed smoke from the underground kitchens, sample some of the simple cuisine that local fighters would have survived on and have an opportunity to venture into the tunnels and explore the complex. Following our step back in modern history we return to the chaos of Ho Chi Minh City.

Our Hanoi tour journey begins with a two hour drive from the hectic capital of Hanoi to the province of Ninh Binh, approximately 100kms. Our first destination is Hao Lu, the location of the capital of Vietnam during the Dinh Dynasty (968-980) and early Le Dynasty (980-1009), the ancient citadel once covered 300 hectares of land, however the passage of time has left few remains of this once glorious capital of the Vietnam.

On arrival our local guide will take us through the Dinh & Le Temple, restored in the 17th century the temples are dedicated Dinh and Le emperors and believed to be built on the original foundations of the old palaces from the 11th and 12th centuries. You will delve into our history on this Hanoi cultural tour.

Next jump on a bike for a 12 km bike ride through the area, lime karsts towering above you as you ride along back roads and beautiful scenery... experiences you don't get on other Hanoi tours.

Following our bike visit we stop for lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Tam Coc (which translates as "Three Caves").  The area is often referred to as the Halong Bay of the land due to its spectacular scenery, lime karsts rise up of the ground to tower over the region, and is a Hanoi travel wonder  Here we board rowing boats for a 2 to 2.5 hour journey through caves, passed local villages along the river system of the Red River Delta.

The scenery comprises of lush green rice paddies during the rice growing seasons and surrounding limestone karsts making for a stunning backdrop to the journey and presents many photo opportunities for the keen photographers amongst the group. At the end of the boat trip, it is time to return to Hanoi as we finish our Hanoi tour.
