Austria Currency Guide

Currency

Austria uses the Euro.

ATM

First things first, before you head overseas make sure you let your bank know when you’re travelling to check whether you can use your card in Austria and if there are any international withdrawal fees. Most bankcards attached to the Cirrus or Maestro networks can be used. When you get to Austria, you’ll find heaps of ATMs, some of which are accessible only until midnight, while others have 24-hour availability.

Cash

Before you leave home, it is important to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Euros to have with you when you arrive in Austria. Euros are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly.

Travel Card

If you’d like the security that a credit card offers without the risk of racking up debt on your travels, consider purchasing a prepaid travel money card. A Multi-currency Cash Passport™ allows you to load your money onto the card in the form of Euros and other popular currencies. Your money can then be accessed at ATMs like a debit card or used wherever MasterCard® is accepted. The Multi-currency Cash Passport card has both a security pin and a signature required for safe spending.
