Brasilia Transport Guide

Designed with the car in mind, Brasília is not a pedestrian-friendly city. Public transport options include the metro, buses and metered taxis. As Brasília has much less rush hour congestion than other major Brazilian cities, a hire car is a good option for getting around town.

How to get around Brasilia

The best way to travel around Brasília is by car as the planned urban city was designed around the automobile. Your next best bet is the bus system, which goes to all the major attractions, and includes minibuses that link the central areas. Metered taxis are relatively expensive in Brasília however taxi stands are located near all tourist attractions for convenience. The Brasília metro system has two lines and was designed as a commuter train to service the satellite cities and therefore not as useful for visitors as it does not travel to any of the main tourist attractions.
