Caribbean Currency Guide

Currency

While US dollars (USD) are widely accepted, local currencies differ across the Caribbean – Bahamas uses the Bahamian dollar (BSD), Jamaica uses the Jamaican Dollar (JMD), St Lucia and Antigua use the East Caribbean dollar (XCD), Barbados uses the Barbadian dollar (BBD), Dominican Republic the Dominican peso (DOP), and so on.

ATM

ATM facilities, which distribute local currency, can be found throughout the Caribbean, particularly in popular tourist and business areas. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while travelling, don't forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes.

Cash

Before you travel, it is important to convert some of your Australian Dollars into US Dollars to have with you when you arrive in the Caribbean. US Dollars are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly.

Credit Card

For large purchases, it’s a good idea to bring a credit card with you on your holiday to the Caribbean instead of carrying a lot of cash. If you don’t have a credit card, consider a debit credit card that allows you to access your savings account and the local currency from ATMs and wherever credit cards are accepted.
