Frankfurt Currency Guide
Frankfurt uses the Euro.
There are loads of ATMs all over the city of Frankfurt on main streets, in shopping centres and transport hubs. If you have a MasterCard, Visa or cards with Cirrus, Plus or Maestro logos, you’ll be able to use your card here.
While you can change your Australian Dollars into Euros when you arrive in Frankfurt, it’s a good idea to have some local currency before you arrive. You can purchase Euros from Travel Money Oz before you jet off. You can also exchange your Dollars when you land in Frankfurt. Look out for post offices, banks and foreign exchange offices. The ticketed price of many goods in Germany includes Value Added Tax (VAT), which tourists can get refunded. Just keep your receipts and grab a tax-free form from the sales assistant.
If you'd like the security that a credit card offers while travelling without the risk of racking up debt, consider purchasing a pre-paid cash travel card. Cash Passports allow you to load your money in the form of Euros and other currencies onto the card. Your money can then be accessed at various ATMS and used wherever MasterCard is accepted. The Cash Passport card has both a security pin and signature required for safe spending.
