Mauritius Transport Guide
For a small island, Mauritius has a couple of public transport options including buses and taxis. However, the easiest way to get around independently is to hire a car or a scooter, Mauritius is left-hand drive just like Australia and the UK.
How to get around Mauritius
There are a few bus companies in Mauritius that service different areas of the country and range from standard buses with multiple-stop routes and air-conditioned express buses. Bus travel is great if you’re on a budget although the main routes can get quite busy with standing room only. Taxis are plentiful however meters are rarely used so be sure to negotiate a price with the driver or opt for a share taxi arrangement to keep costs down. Renting a bicycle is not recommended for long-distance travel in Mauritius but it’s an easy and fun way to explore the coastline.
