Nairobi Weather Guide

Nairobi has a subtropical climate with dry winters and warm summers. The evenings can get a little chilly during June and July when the temperature can drop to 10 degrees Celsius. The sunniest and warmest part of the year is December to March. There are 2 rainy seasons: March to May and mid-October to mid-December. The rest of the year you can expect dry and pleasant weather. The best time to visit Nairobi is during the dry seasons from December to February and June through October.

Wet Season:March to May and November

Of the 2 distinct rainy seasons that occur in Nairobi, the spring months of March to May are locally referred to as the 'long rainy' season and April is the wettest month. The other rainy period is much shorter and occurs between October and December. While there aren’t many festivals during this year, the national parks are still open all year round and cheaper flights to Nairobi are usually available when the rainy season clouds settle over Kenya.

Dry Season: December to February and June to October

Nairobi doesn’t usually experience the blistering heat that other parts of Africa endure. The month of February sees the most sunshine in Nairobi with about 10 hours of daylight - head out on hikes and safaris and get the most out of your days during this time. In June, you can also catch Kenya Fashion Week and the Tusker Safari Sevens rugby tournament. The sunniest and warmest part of the year is from December to March when temperatures average the around the mid-20s during the day. In June, the Nairobi Wine Festival is your chance to sample some of Kenya’s best drops.
