Paris Weather Guide

It sizzles in summer and drizzles in winter, but no matter when you visit Paris, it's always beautiful. Weather in the French capital is similar to much of Europe in that it has an oceanic climate where the seasons are mild and rain is common year round.

Season and Clothing

Summer: June to August

Warm weather and cool gelato is a common fixture of summer in Paris. During the season, the city's temperatures average between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, although warmer weather heatwaves are growing increasingly common. When the mercury does rise to a scorcher, most locals can be found cooling themselves at the Paris Plages (manmade beaches set up by the Seine from mid-July to mid-August). During this time, sundresses, shorts and t-shirts are acceptable, although we recommend leaving the thongs at home unless you want to standout as a tourist.

Average temperatures: 15 - 25 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Summer clothes and sandals.
Don't forget: Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

Autumn: September to November

With crisp air, mild temperatures and changing leaves, autumn is a beautiful time to be in Paris. In addition to pleasant temperatures,  which average around 7 to 15 degrees Celsius, autumn is also a shoulder season in Paris and as a result sees less tourists and offers better travel deals during this time. While the autumn days are crisp and sunny in Paris, nights can be quite cool. To enjoy the best of the elements, pack a coat and scarf to keep you warm when the temperatures drop.

Average temperatures: 7 - 15 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Warm layers and comfortable walking boots.
Don't forget: A scarf.

Winter: December to February

By the time December comes around, the sun in Paris tends to go into hibernation along with the locals. Temperatures drop to around 7 degrees Celsius and snow can fall, although it's not entirely common. As a result, warm clothes are a must, from snow-ready boots to scarves and beanies. What you spend on winter clothes you can save on accommodation as winter is a low season for the city, apart from the festive period when travellers head to Paris for a white and romantic Christmas.

Average temperatures: 2 - 7 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Warm layers and comfortable walking boots.
Don't forget: A warm coat, scarf and gloves.

Spring: March to May

Though summer boasts sunny days, autumn features crisp air and winter may promise snow, spring is lauded to be the best time to visit Paris. Temperatures in the springtime range between 11 and 19 degrees Celsius making for ideal weather for enjoying the outdoors. For a spring holiday in Paris, pack a range of layers including jeans, jumpers and a scarf for night-time. If you're visiting in the springtime, don't miss the annual Easter in Paris celebrations with scrumptious brunches, Easter egg hunts and the amazing chocolate creations made by master chocolatiers.

Average temperatures: 11 - 19 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Light layers and sandals.
Don't forget: A jumper and scarf.
