Siem Reap Weather Guide

Siem Reap has a tropical climate with a wet and dry season. The best time to visit is between November to February when the monsoonal rains have stopped. The city is really hot all year round so remember to protect yourself from the sun and make sure you lather up in 30+. Also,

regardless of the temperature, it’s important to dress somewhat conservatively in Seim Reap as a sign of respect to the Cambodian people.

Season and Clothing

Summer: June to August

In summer time the rainy season begins with June recorded wet albeit cool weather. As such, summer is also the low season so if you choose to visit during these months, you won’t have battle the crowds. July is quite a nice time to visit because the temp isn’t too hot and the rains are generally in the evening. In August, there’s more rain than July but it’s not as heavy as autumn.

Average temperatures: 25 – 34 degrees Celsius
Appropriate clothing: Waterproof and quick dry clothing
Don’t forget: Sandals, sunscreen and sunglasses

Autumn: September to November

Most of autumn takes place during the wet season. In fact September is one of the wettest months in Seim Reap. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad time to visit though, with incredibly lush vegetation and a more peaceful vibe thanks to the tourism low season. October is cool and wet with temperatures hovering between 20 and 30 degrees during the day. While it can rain at any time of day, generally speaking the rain normally holds off until after 4pm. In November, the wet season starts to dry up with blue skies common and temperatures cooling. November is also when the Cambodian Water Festival takes place with boat races held through Siem Reap.

Average temperatures: 25 – 31 degrees Celsius
Appropriate clothing: Quick dry apparel and grippy shoes for slippery temple climbing
Don’t forget: Raincoat, poncho or sturdy umbrella

Winter: December to February

Winter falls in Siem Reap’s dry season and is arguably the best time to visit for weather. While the crowds may be larger as a result, the temperatures are much more pleasant. In early December especially, the weather is perfect with cool and dry conditions and blue skies. Of the season, January is the coolest month while February temps are near perfect and thus the most popular month to travel.

Spring: March to May

The weather in March is really pleasant with clear skies on most days. April is quite hot and humid and can be a bit uncomfortable sometimes but it’s not necessarily a bad time to visit because they’re not many tourists at the temples. April is also a great time to visit because the Khmer New Year celebrations take place on the 14th, 15th and 16th.
