Slovenia Currency Guide

Currency

Slovenia’s official currency is the Euro.

ATM

ATMs, or bančni avtomat, are widely distributed throughout Slovenia, scattered in regional areas and highly concentrated in towns and cities. Keep an eye out for Abanka and SKB Banka ATMs, in particular, to withdraw cash. English options are common, although minor translations may be required at ATMs that fail to provide these services. Remember, popravek (clear), prekinitev (cancel) and potrditev (enter), to save you from cancelling or entering your transaction incorrectly.

Cash

It’s always a great idea to carry a little cash on you in case you’re stuck somewhere without an ATM. Euros are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly. In Slovenia, exchange agencies, hotels and post offices can all convert your international currencies into the Euro.

Travel Card

If you'd like the security that a credit card offers while travelling without the risk of racking up debt, consider purchasing a prepaid cash travel card. A Multi-currency Cash Passport™ allows you to load your money in the form of Euros and other currencies onto the card. Your money can then be accessed at various ATMS and used wherever MasterCard® is accepted. The Multi-currency Cash Passport card has both a security pin and signature required for safe spending.
