Sydney Transport Guide

Sydney has myriad public transport options including an extensive suburban rail and bus network as well as light rail, ferry and taxi services to get you around town.

How to get around Sydney

The most efficient way to get from A to B in Sydney is by train, which has fast and regular services and avoids any delays due to any traffic congestion on major roads. Most of the main sightseeing sites, museums and galleries are centrally located in Sydney's CBD making it easy to wander around on foot or use the limited light rail services. Inner-city suburbs like Paddington, Balmain and Newtown are also very walkable. A must is a ferry trip or water taxi ride on the harbour for amazing views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Taxis are also plentiful and easy to flag down on the street.
