Croatia Holidays

From an often tumultuous historic past as part of Communist state Yugoslavia, Croatia has grown into a thriving independent nation with some of the Mediterranean's most stunning scenery and coastline.
There are a number of novel ways to enjoy your Croatia holidays, with dozens of charter boat companies offering tours out of the southern city of Split, either bareboat or crewed. Even if you've never had the chance to handle a proper sailing boat, there are classes and schools to help you learn. If being on the sea isn't your thing, thanks to the terrain there has been a massive boom in adventure holidays with the chance to cycle, kayak, hike, dive or 4x4 off-road around the country.
Anyone feeling brave enough might want to visit one of the twenty official 'naturist' resorts or hundreds of 'free' beaches as Croatia experiences a surge in nude tourism. Look for any beach marked with the letters 'FKK' and get your kit off!
Split sports some great examples of Roman architecture as emperor Diocletian used Split as his own personal retirement village, throwing in a couple of huge Egyptian sphinxes too for good measure. The city also has its own version of Bondi at Bacvice which will give you a feel for the 'real' Split, but there are plenty quieter beaches to the north.
Dubrovnik, the final destination for many of the sailing trips, is nicknamed the 'Pearl of the Adriatic' and is packed full of churches, museums, towers and palaces. The city also hosts its own Summer festival through July and August. If you don't mind your beer in a plastic cup and you're happy just eating crisps or nuts, see if you can find Café Buza and spend a few hours with the sea lapping the rocks below you.
What capital Zagreb lacks in coastline, it makes up for in nightlife with a huge selection of beers at the Pub Oliver Twist, Hemingway's in the middle of the cultural district or a raft of nightclubs and bars around the Jarun Lake, to the southwest of the city.
