New Zealand holidays are a mixed bag packed with awesome adventure, mad scenery and best of all they can be done on a shoestring budget. There are two islands to explore- North and South, you should definitely and see both, but if you're on a tight schedule you should probably stick to the South Island first. NZ holidays are a brilliant choice for the adrenaline buff - Queenstown is the go for daredevil activities like bungee jumping, sky diving, white water rafting and jet boating to name a few and if you're handy with an ice pick you can join a hair-raising ice climb adventure at either the Franz Josef or Fox Glaciers.
A holiday in New Zealand is great for the hiking enthusiast - check out the Fiordland National Park in the south west corner of South Island, there's a bunch of great trails here like the Milford Track and the Routeburn Track. A cruise through Milford Sound with its towering mountains and sheer rock faces soaring 1200 feet has been described as one of the most beautiful places on earth and is New Zealand's most visited tourist attraction.
If you're on the lookout for cheap New Zealand holidays try camping in one of New Zealand's many camping grounds and holiday parks. You don't have to rough it (although there are plenty of spots where you can if that's your bag) with places like Aaron Lodge in Dunedin offering all the modern comforts at a no-sweat cost. Lanarch Castle is a big draw card in Dunedin; built in 1871, it is New Zealand's only castle and offers breathtaking views as well as some pretty cool gardens. Dunedin is home to one of the oldest Universities in New Zealand as well, so naturally the city has a ripper nightlife and party scene.
The North Island is full of gems and treasures, the geysers and mud pools of Rotarua are awesome (if not a little stinky)while the hot springs are a relaxing treat that combined with a massage is pretty hard to beat. The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand's most spectacular landscapes and has heaps of gorgeous wildlife too -swim with dolphins, scuba dive with manta rays, explore shipwrecks and rocky coastlines. The Waitomo Caves are the North Island's famous underground glowworm caves, there's a bunch of adventure activities you can do here like black water rafting, abseiling down huge chasms and in Waitomo itself you can go horse riding or quad biking. No need to stress about where to stay either, there's a stack of New Zealand holiday accommodation to be found on the North Island that will suit all tastes and budgets.
Getting around is fairly easy in New Zealand and if you hire a campervan you can take your accommodation with you.
