Departing Hanoi at 8:00am, we will drive 120km to Thai Binh City, its a very pleasant drive with beautiful landscape outside the window. We will arrive in the Thai Binh Orphanage Centre around 11:00am. Upon arrival we will spend some time to talk to the orphanage Director - also a surrogate mum to the children. Then we will meet the children and have a tour of the orphanage. At midday we will join the children for lunch.
With the support of the tour guide, we run some games with the children. After the games, we will present any donations or gifts to Mr. Phi Van Tinh, the director. Time and weather permitting, we can play some outdoor games before heading back to Hanoi (eg badminton, football). Our vehicle will take us back to Hanoi at 3:00pm, arriving back in Hanoi around 5:30pm.

You will volunteer at either a municipal orphanage or one of two day-care centres for children with special needs nea Xi'an, which are aimed at educating the children and providing assistance to their parents. Volunteers are needed at all of these projects to help care for the disadvantaged children.

At the elephant foundation, you will assist with the daily care of the elephants, as well as helping to develop public information and raise awareness of the foundation. You may be involved with writing the foundation's newsletter or creating information displays for visitors. There may also the opportunity to become involved with ecological farming or teaching English in the local community.
In general, you will be involved in elephant conservation, where every volunteer will be allocated an elephant and will help the Mahout (carer) look after it, including daily bathing and grooming. You'll also be participating in the mobile veterinary unit's field trips as and when possible.

The giant panda is one of the most endangered animals in the world, with a current estimate of only 1600 alive today. This project gives you a great opportunity to observe and work with these amazing creatures in a breeding and rescue centre for many different Chinese species - as well as the Giant Panda you will live alongside takins, red pandas, golden monkeys, black bears and a snow leopard.
The majority of the volunteer work that you will get involved with includes preparing and serving the panda's food and cleaning the panda's enclosures, and some monitoring/research work may also be on the cards. Get up close and personal with the animals and get involved in the daily running of the centre. Prepare to flex your muscles and get a tan whilst assisting with the building of new enclosures and checking the state of game park fences so that nothing can get in or out.
You can expect to get involved with preparing food for the animals - this is important as there are many cubs, and without the volunteers there would not be enough staff to prepare these for the ever growing animals. Your help is also needed in cleaning out enclosures; due to the number of animals, a lot of help is needed to complete these tasks as well as feeding and preparing the food for the animals.

This elephant park was born from the struggle of elephants in the Knysna Forest who, for many years, were able to roam freely in their natural forest habitat. Today, sadly their habitat has been encroached to such an extent that few now live in the wild.
The founders of this project grew up in the local area and were deeply affected by the plight of the local elephants - help out by bottle feeding orphaned baby elephants that need some extra TLC, providing feed for the adult elephants, observing and researching them and general park maintenance. As a volunteer you will be assisting with sports activities at a school in the disadvantaged community of Ocean View. There are approximately 1200 children and only 34 teachers at the school and although the school would really love to be in a position to employ a full time sport specialist they are unable to do so for financial reasons. You will be able to select the sports that you are interested in coaching, whether it is football, netball or athletics. You also have the opportunity to introduce other games and sports, but please note that the equipment may not necessarily be available.
If you wish to coach a different sport, you can bring some basic equipment with you which would be great if you could also donate to the programme. Children from the disadvantaged communities often have very little. Most children have never played football with a real ball before and usually use footballs made up of crushed plastic bags that have been tied together. We work with several different schools in the local area for this project near Kitengela, 50km south of Nairobi, providing primary education for children from the Athi Plains region of the Rift Valley. In the heart of the native land of the Maasai tribesmen, where adults view children caring for cattle as a higher priority than attending school, there is much work to be done in order encourage more children to gain an education.
The school curriculums cover a wide range of subjects with a focus on English, sports and environmental awareness, designed to be sensitive to the Maasai culture which it impacts on.

Those of us that love to read have enjoyed privileges most of us have taken for granted; parents who read bedtime stories, books in English lying around the house or at the very least, an adult in the family able to read and write English. Whereas many South African children have parents who can't read or write English and who, therefore, can't help them to learn.

Located in South Africa, you will be assisting in caring for Lions, Leopards and Hyena's as well as many other species of wildlife. This amazing programme provides you with the unique opportunity to work with beautiful African Lions including the extremely rare White Lions which are close to extinction in the wild. The centre specializes in providing care for many predators including Spotted Hyena, Brown Hyena, African Wild Dog and Cheetah.
As a volunteer on this unique programme you may be involved with activities such as helping out in the nursery for some of the parks adorable cubs, cleaning enclosures, preparing food and basic maintenance duties around the park. You will be working with Great White sharks monitoring their behaviour both from the boat and from cages You will also be working with the Marine Big 5 - sharks, whales, dolphins, seals and penguins as well as working closely with the team`s Marine Biologist. You will be amazed at what you will learn!
Shark education features as a prominent part of the project, and it is only by getting to know these complex creatures more intimately that the impact of their current continuing decline can be understood. Therefore the project is particularly suited to those who are willing to take up a challenge and play a pivotal role in observing and promoting these graceful and majestic creatures. You will have an amazing time as the project will enable you to see sharks in their natural environment, either from a boat or from a cage.
You will also learn about coastal eco systems in the region and about what work is going on to help preserve them. Each link of the chain needs to be supported in order to ensure ocean sustainability. Because of this you will have a wide variety of tasks and activities to participate. Get up close and personal with whale sharks - they eat plankton, not humans! Learn to dive in tropical waters and collect data on whale sharks, coral reefs and turtles. As a volunteer on this project you will be getting up close to the incredible Whale Sharks of Mozambique. You will be provided with the opportunity to learn about the behaviour of wild whale sharks as you scuba dive Mozambique's incredible coastline. Duties will also include the monitoring of indicator fish species and coral condition to help in the overall research that is imperative in the conservation of this marine area. During the turtle-breeding season (October-March) you may also be involved in the monitoring of nesting activity.

Despite its bright modern cities Argentina still has lots of orphaned children in need of a little love and attention as well as access to educational opportunities through English language lessons. There will be plenty of time to do what children do best and it won't be long before they rope you in to all sorts of sports, singing, dancing and drama.
i-to-i volunteers will work with communities located in the suburbs of Posadas that were built within the past few years in response to growing populations in the suburbs. The projects you'll be working with aim to give children aged between 1-12 the best possible childhood and education possible - something that every child around the world should have.
All of the children's homes that we work with in Posadas are self funded, and have very little or no support from outside organisations, meaning that every day is a constant struggle to stay afloat and to keep being able to provide assistance to the needy children.
We work with several different projects in Posadas; including a children's home for girls taken away from their families due to being at risk of abuse and neglect; a day care centre set up for children to get a nutritious meal and also an orphanage for children who no longer have parents to take care of them or parents who are able to take care of them. Most of Peru's rich history is proudly on show above the ground; towering over your head in the shape of well-preserved colonial architecture or ancient Inca sites perched high on knife-edge cliffs. However, there is even more to be found under our feet and armed with a spade and a keen pair of eyes you could be the first person to see it for hundreds of years.
Dating back to the 5th Century, the ceremonial site of Huaca Pucllana is one of Peru's cultural wonders. The project is attempting to uncover and restore the site, but lack of funding means volunteers are needed to get busy excavating, cleaning, registering and cataloguing in order for the work to continue. The name of the game is CONSERVATION, and everything this project does is centered round protecting habitats, planting trees, eradicating invasive species, maintaining areas of natural beauty and agricultural activities. The project on San Cristobal has been in existence since 2003 and is dedicated to the research, conservation, and management of ecologically important habitats, as well as environmental education and community development.
You'll be living and working in a reserve in a rural and tranquil part of San Cristobal Island. The weather is hot, sticky and humid, the people are friendly, the work is hard but great fun and based around constantly improving the natural habitat you'll be living in. $460* for each extra week.
