The city of Heraklion, Greece, is home to the Heraklion International Airport (HER), which is the second major international airport in the country. It is also known as the Nikos Kazantzakis Airport in honor of a Greek philosopher and writer so you may need to get your taxi driver to take you to the Nikos.
This Crete Island airport is only 5 km away from the Heraklion city centre. One thing you need to know is it is best not to take videos or photographs of the runway as the airport is also used by the Hellenic Air Force.
