Meet the Team - Sam Towne, Assistant Team Leader with Student Flights
Meet Sam Towne, the Assistant Team Leader with Student Flights based in Alexandra Headland, on the Sunshine Coast. She has lived in, worked in, studied in and visited 54 countries! Sam has some great travelling tales to share with us over the coming months, so watch this space!...
Where did you grow up?
Born at the Gold Coast and lived there for 6 years before moving to Cardwell in north QLD. After only 2 years my family moved to Boston, USA! We lived there for a couple years, going to school and travelling around the country in a motor home. Moved back to Ballina NSW for a couple years and then completed high school in Hervey Bay.
How long have you worked for the company?
I started working for the company in London about 4 years ago. In August 2010 I embarked on a new adventure, assisting in opening a brand new store at Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast!
What countries have you travelled to?
I have been lucky enough to visit 54 countries!! Living in the UK for 6 years I did extensive travel through Europe & Western Europe. I have backpacked around South America for 4 months, travelling though Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru & Ecuador. I travelled Africa for 2 months covering all the way from Uganda to South Africa. Other countries include India, Thailand, Vietnam, USA, Fiji and so much more!
What is your favourite destination and why?
It is so hard to pick just one but if I was to choose it would defiantly be Africa! The people are so beautiful and so very down to earth. The country side and of course the abundance of animals are second to none!
What destinations are on your Travel Bucket List?
Russia, Mongolia, China & Canada! In fact my dream to go to as many countries as possible, with one full passport already, my goal is to fill up 2!!
Why do you recommend travellers book via a Travel Agent?
To get the one on one personal experience, having someone who has been there and done that to tell you the best and the worst of a place before you even get there! To be able to talk to someone face to face and have full time assistance once you are overseas!

A broke girl in Amsterdam
I’ll start off by leaving you completely gobsmacked. I did not ride a single bike in Amsterdam... EVER.
It feels good to get that off my chest. Although, there really would have been no time like the present in Amsterdam to actually learn how to ride a bike… hashtag hindsight.
The ins and outs of getting around Honkers
Twice as many skyscrapers as NYC. Flashing neon lights. Traffic whirring in every direction. Hong Kong can seem a little OTT at first. But once you know how to navigate the maze, zig-zagging your way around from sight to sight (and bite) starts to feel like second nature.
News flash: proposed strike may cause delays for international travel
If you’re going to be wheeling your bags to the international departures lounge between the 11th and 13th of August, be advised that an upcoming strike by employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection Services may cause delays.
