The 5 perks of flying with Virgin Atlantic
At Student Flights, we love the perks, especially if they come with no extra cost. And luckily for us, Virgin Atlantic also shares our enthusiasm for a few freebies, which is why we love to fly with them. We also love their extensive network, flying from Sydney to London and Hong Kong. So if you’re tossing up between airlines, here’s a rundown on some of the airline’s benefits to help make your decision easier.
Welcome aboard cocktail!
Because nothing says welcome quite like a cocktail. An excuse to board early if ever there was one, Virgin Atlantic welcome their economy passengers on board with a juice cocktail served with or without vodka and in a festive purple class. We’ll take one with vodka thanks!
Extra legroom? In Economy? On an international flight? Such words together are usually unheard of, but not with Virgin Atlantic. On a Virgin Atlantic flight from Sydney you can stretch out in an exit row seat or one with extra legroom for a simple additional fee.
Let them entertain you
In the world of Virgin Atlantic, time flies when you’re having fun, which is why they offer a wide range of fun entertainment to help the flight go quickly. Although with their latest range of movies and TV, we’d be tempted not to leave the plane at all. Plus they have old school arcade games like Tetris and Bejewelled which will bring you right back to the days of Nokia brick phones when you used to play sneaky games during class – or was that just us?
Speaking of mobiles, have you ever wondered why you can’t call and text people while you’re flying? Well on Virgin Atlantic, you can. Through their new system Aeromobile you can use your phone as long as it is activated for international roaming. The brand-spanking system is new so it’s not available on all planes just yet, but by the end of this year it is expected to be available on 13 Virgin Atlantic aircraft.
As far as we’re concerned, the holiday starts as soon as you enter the plane, so there’s no reason why the holiday shopping can’t start soon after. Onboard a Virgin Atlantic flight you can start your spending spree during your flight with a range of electronics, fragrances, cosmetics, jewellery, confectionary and liquor available onboard.

A broke girl in Amsterdam
I’ll start off by leaving you completely gobsmacked. I did not ride a single bike in Amsterdam... EVER.
It feels good to get that off my chest. Although, there really would have been no time like the present in Amsterdam to actually learn how to ride a bike… hashtag hindsight.
The ins and outs of getting around Honkers
Twice as many skyscrapers as NYC. Flashing neon lights. Traffic whirring in every direction. Hong Kong can seem a little OTT at first. But once you know how to navigate the maze, zig-zagging your way around from sight to sight (and bite) starts to feel like second nature.
News flash: proposed strike may cause delays for international travel
If you’re going to be wheeling your bags to the international departures lounge between the 11th and 13th of August, be advised that an upcoming strike by employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection Services may cause delays.
