Las Vegas pool parties reveal all
Come summer in America, approximately six months from now, the tanned and toned descend on Las Vegas for unlimited champagne, topless bathing and outrageous events. This is the pool season in Vegas, where celebs mingle with travellers and the party begins when the sun is up, carrying on far into the night. For a few months, until closing parties in September, scantily-clad party-goers flock to the poolside in some of the Strip's biggest hotels.
Each daytime pool party offers a slightly different scene. Becoming increasingly popular is the fashion for 'European-style' (topless) bathing being allowed in some of the most stylish clubs. The Moorea Beach Club usually has an optional swimwear policy and runs adults-only parties daily at the Mandalay Bay hotel. The club has eleven tropical acres with a wave pool, lazy river, sand beach and waterside massage service. Others opting for a 'less is more' dress code for revellers include Bare at The Mirage, Tao Beach at The Venetian and Beach Club 25 at Stratosphere.
Venus, at Caesars Palace, also allows topless bathing and in the past has run lavish opening ceremonies that include Miss USA contestants being carried on the shoulders of muscle men. The parties take place on different days of the week depending on where you go, but all start in the afternoon, end in the evening and can be raucous affairs. Entrance charges are typically lower for women than for men, normally costing around US$10. Men can pay up to US$40. There is often the option of hiring an exclusive poolside cabana, allowing groups to relax in private and enjoy waiter service.
Musicians and perma-tanned, US reality-television stars sometimes make an appearance. British boxer Ricky Hatton once turned up at the a pool party at the MGM Grand. The MGM Grand's WET REPUBLIC pool party is open Thursday to Monday. The Marquee Dayclub takes place daily at The Cosmopolitan. Arrive early to get your sunbed - or chaise, as they call them in Vegas. They go fast. Extra pampering is available on The Pool Deck, at the Mandarin Oriental, where guests are offered deep oil massages and poolside oyster delivery.
