Cancun Transport Guide
It’s cheap and easy to get around Cancun by bus. You can also hail a taxi, but make sure you agree on the fare before you get in. You can reach many of Cancun’s nearby islands by passenger or car ferry in under an hour too.
How to get around Cancun
Buses are the cheapest way to get around Cancun from the Hotel Zone to almost anywhere including Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Merida and Chetumal, to name a few. You can also hail a taxi anywhere in Cancun. Agree on the rate before you set and remember that taxis from outside your hotel or restaurant are more expensive than ones in the street. Several ferries serve Cancun and the Riviera Maya with regular routes to Isla Mujeres from Puerto Juarez each day. There is also a ferry service from Playa Tortugas in the Hotel Zone and a car ferry operates out of Punta Sam. Renting a car in Cancun is unnecessary because of the great bus system, but if you want to explore outside the city or find a remote beach there are reasonable car hire options. You will need to reserve ahead and remember they drive on the right in Mexico.
