Hanoi Currency Guide

The currency used in Hanoi is the Vietnamese Dong.

ATMs in Hanoi can be found throughout the city, particularly within the main shopping and tourist strips. Most of these machines will be operated by Vietcombank and Incombank, and you may come across some ANZ and Commonwealth Bank ATMs as well. To avoid being charged huge international fees for your withdrawals, contact your bank to ask what fees you will be charged in Vietnam. It is also important to let your bank know your travel dates for security purposes.

Before you leave home, don't forget to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Vietnamese Dong to have with you when you arrive in Hanoi. Vietnamese Dong are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly.

Credit Card

For large purchases, it’s a good idea to bring a credit card with you on your holiday to Hanoi instead of carrying a lot of cash. If you don’t have a credit card, consider a debit credit card that allows you to access your savings account and the local currency from ATMs and wherever Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted.
