Hungary Currency Guide
Hungary uses the Hungarian Forint.
ATM facilities can be found throughout Hungary, particularly in the cities and main towns as well as the train and bus stations. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while travelling, don’t forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes and check what international withdrawal fees may apply to your card.
Before you travel, it’s a good idea to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Hungarian Forint to have with you when you arrive. Hungarian Forint are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly. If you need to change money in Budapest, use the local banks.
For large purchases, it’s a good idea to bring a credit card with you on your holiday to Hungary instead of carrying a lot of cash. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted in most restaurants, shops, hotels, car-hire companies, travel agencies and petrol stations. If you don’t have a credit card, consider a debit credit card that allows you to access your savings account and the local currency from ATMs and wherever credit cards are accepted.
