Mexico Currency Guide
Mexico uses the Mexican Peso.
ATMs can be found all throughout the major cities of Mexico, as well as in the resort towns. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while travelling, don't forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes and to check if any international withdrawal fees may apply to your card.
Before you leave home, it is important to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Mexican Pesos to have with you when you arrive in Mexico. US Dollars may also be accepted in some resort areas and hotels and may also offer a better exchange rate so consider carrying the two currencies with you. Mexican Pesos and US Dollars are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you take off.
If you're planning on buying up a storm on holiday, consider bringing a credit card or debit credit card with you. Credit cards are accepted at most shops, restaurants and hotels in Mexico. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted cards; double check with your bank before you travel about accessing your various accounts while in Mexico.
