Monte Carlo Weather Guide
There’s not ever really a bad time to visit Monte Carlo. The principality of Monaco has a lovely, mild climate with an average of over 300 days of sunshine every year. Spring and autumn are ideal times to visit as you’ll be able to avoid the crowds and still appreciate great weather.
Season and Clothing
Summer: June to August
Imagine your best summer ever, times it by a million and you’ll come close to a summer in Monte Carlo. In June, July and August, temperatures hover around 26 degrees Celsius and peak over 30 degrees some days. There’s only a little bit of rainfall in summer too, so you’ll find the weather near perfect most days. With such pleasant weather it’s no wonder crowds are drawn to Monte Carlo in summer. While crowds unfortunately mean higher rates, it’s totally worth it! If you’re around in July and August, don’t miss seeing the spectacular Monte Carlo International Fireworks Festival.
Average temperatures:21 – 30 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: The most stylish things in your wardrobe.
Don’t forget: To have the time of your life.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn, along with spring, is arguably the best time to go to Monte Carlo. The skies are clear, the average temps are mild and the crowds have left. September is still pretty warm, but November will drop as low as 15 degrees Celsius and is also one of the wettest months of the year. In autumn, you’ll find the beaches clear out, though it’s still warm enough to go to the beach until mid-September.
Average temperatures:15 – 28 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing:Cool and casual gear for layering.
Don’t forget:A waterproof jacket.
Winter: December to February
While winter may be Monte Carlo’s low season, it’s still quite a pleasant time to visit particularly if you’re on a budget. From December to February, daytime temps hover around 10 degrees Celsius and there’s usually only 4 to 5 hours of sunshine. If you fancy adding a ski leg to your Europe trip, Monte Carlo is quite close to the ski resorts in France. But be sure to head back to the area in January for the unmissable Monte Carlo Rally – it’s world class!
Average temperatures:10 – 17 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing:Stylish winter clothes with big coats.
Don’t forget: Clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dusty at the rally.
Spring: March to May
Spring is also known as Grand Prix season in Monte Carlo. It’s a great time to visit as the temperatures are a little bit cool ranging between 13 degrees in April and rise up to about 17 degrees Celsius in May. In spring, there’s also the ‘Le Mistral’ wind that makes for beautiful, blue skies and sunny, crisp weather. While most of spring isn’t peak season, you’ll find glitzy crowds flock to Monte Carlo at the end of May for the amazing Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. Unfortunately this makes it an expensive time to visit, but it’s also super exciting!
Average temperatures:12 – 22 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing:Light layers and a coat for night-time.
Don’t forget:Racing clothes, preferably red. It goes faster.
