Phuket Currency Guide
The currency used in Phuket is the Thai Baht.
ATMs in Phuket can be found all over the island, particularly in Patong and near the various resorts. Most of these machines are operated by Cirrus or Plus and will have an English option available. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while travelling, don't forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes and to see if any international withdrawal fees may apply to your card.
Before you leave home, don't forget to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Thai Baht to have with you when you arrive in Phuket. Thai Baht is available to pre-purchase from Travel Money OZ before you jet.
If you'd like the security that a credit card offers while travelling without the risk of racking up debt, consider purchasing a prepaid travel money card. A Multi-currency Cash Passport™ allows you to load your money in the form of Thai Bahts and other currencies onto the card. Your money can then be accessed at various ATMS and used wherever MasterCard® is accepted. The Multi-currency Cash Passport card has both a security pin and signature required for safe spending.
