Snowy Mountains Currency Guide
The Snowy Mountains area uses the Australian Dollar.
ATMs can be found in the towns of Adaminaby, Jindabyne, Cooma, Thredbo, Tumbarumba and Tumut and at petrol stations, resorts and hotels in the Snowy Mountains. If you are travelling to Australia from overseas and plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card in Australia, don't forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes.
International travellers should convert some of their local currency into Australian Dollars before they fly. Australian Dollars are also available to purchase and exchange at Travel Money Oz stores when you land.
For large purchases, it's a good idea to bring a credit card or travel money card with you on your holiday to the Snowy Mountains instead of carrying a lot of cash. If you don't have a credit card, consider a prepaid Multi-currency Cash Passport™, which lets you access your own money in the form of Australian Dollars from ATMs and wherever MasterCard® is accepted.
