Whitsundays Transport Guide
As a large island group, transport around the Whitsundays is limited to water vessels in order to hop from island to island, and walking and cycling on the islands themselves. Sightseeing options include helicopter and seaplane flights with two airports available; Great Barrier Reef Airport located on Hamilton Island and the Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine.
How to get around the Whitsundays
Most of the public transport options are located at Airlie Beach on the Whitsunday Coast and consist of buses that run from Proserpine to Shute Harbour. Metered taxis are also available in the coastal areas, as is car and motorbike hire. To get around the Whitsunday Islands you can hop aboard one of the island ferry transfers to Daydream, Hamilton, Long or South Molle Islands or get around by private vessel, seaplane or helicopter transfer. Some islands also have golf buggies for hire to get from A to B. If you are planning a longer holiday, consider hiring a houseboat or chartering a yacht to explore the islands at your leisure.
