Spend your days in turquoise waters and your nights kicking it to some of the best dance music in the world courtesy of Ultra Europe in Croatia. One of the hottest tickets in the European summer, Ultra Europe is a relatively new three-day electronic music festival with claims to unparalleled production quality, a stunning backdrop and DJ talent. In 2014, over 150,000 revellers danced the night away in the Croatian city of Split to the likes of Above & Beyond, Afrojack, Alesso, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and more. In 2015, Ultra Europe will be headlined by The Chemical Brothers.

Ultra days, nights and beach parties

Ultra Europe is the hottest new ticket in Europe and part of the world’s premier electronic music festival movement, Ultra. The inaugural event was held in 2013 in Split, attracting over 100,000 revellers and the likes of Carl Cox and other world-renowned performers. 2014 saw Ultra Europe become a three-day festival attracting over 150,000 festival-goers to see the likes of Above & Beyond, Afrojack, Alesso, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and more. Part of the appeal, organisers say, is the “unparalleled combination of production quality and talent made for a festival experience unlike anything ever seen before in Croatia”.

Another drawcard to Ultra Europe, if you can miracle up a ticket, is Ultra Beach – one hell of a pool party spewing out onto the beach where, in 2014, 5,000 lucky punters got their swim on overlooking the coast at Hotel Amfora Grand Beach Resort on Hvar Island with poolside entertainment courtesy of Justin Oh, Diplo, Dillon Francis and Goldfish. Part of the appeal of Ultra Europe is the festival’s backdrop of the Adriatic Coast’s turquoise waters and coastal mountains. Revellers spend their days at the beach, exploring nearby islands and sailing Croatia’s well-famed routes, and their nights dancing away to some of the best electronic music in the world.

When is it?

Tips and tricks

  • Ultra Europe is very popular and it’s a good idea to book your tickets, accommodation, sailing and transfers – or a tour that includes all these things – well in advance.

  • For first-time electronic dance musical festivalgoers – pace yourself, you have three all-night parties to get through.

  • Comfy clothes and water are your friends.

  • Do some recon – download the Ultra Europe smartphone app or visit information tents at Split city centre and Split Poljud Stadium to plan meeting points at Poljud Stadium and familiarise yourself with the layout and drink stations.

  • For lucky ticket holders, get to the Ultra Beach Party on Hvar Island by boat - a catamaran service leaves at 2pm and 4pm and takes about an hour.

  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are sold at bars throughout the festival and there’s food available too.

  • Daytime boat parties are a popular way to get you into the mood for what’s coming in the night – book a ticket on one or try your luck getting an invitation.
