No it’s not a festival of sausages, it’s the Vienna Festival! Every year some 200,000 visitors flock to one of the world’s leading cultural cities for six weeks over May and June for a multitude of classical, modern and contemporary concerts. From opera to pop, theatre to installations, the landscape and cultural talent merges to create an electric atmosphere at the Wiener Festwochen. This coming together of music and culture is a must-see when in the Vienna hood during this period.

Coming together through music

No other country can claim as many composers as Austria. So, perhaps, where better to brush up on your classical, modern and contemporary than by going to the source? Enter the Wiener Festwochen. Better known in English as the Vienna Festival, Wiener Festwochen is a six-week cultural festival celebrating everyone coming together through music. The festival features a mass array of operas, concerts, theatre marathons, choirs against the picturesque backdrop of Vienna, one of the world’s best-loved cultural cities.

Wiener Festwochen starts with a giant open-air festival and concert known as Eröffnung or the Summer Night Concert in front of Vienna’s city hall, a definite highlight. Whether or not you’re traveling to Austria for this festival or are interested in stopping in to hear what all of the fuss is about as part of your longer journey, Student Flights can help tailor a tour that will have you enjoying the world’s best at the city’s most impressive venues like MuseumsQuartier, the Theater an der Wien, Musikverein and Schauspielhaus. Take the stress out of flights, accommodation, transfers and insurance, and better spend your time brushing up on your Austrian composers like Schubert, Beethoven, Haydn, Strauss and Mozart.
