Brussels is built around the Petit Ring, which contains Brussels' finest landmark, the Grand Palace town square. Most buildings in this ancient marketplace hold a historical significance with Hotel de Ville still used as the town hall. From Petit Ring, other main sites are located in all directions. Just a stone's throw from the Grand Palace is one of Brussels' more eccentric attractions - the Mannekin Pis, a small statue of a peeing boy the locals decorate in different costumes to celebrate various world events. Northwest of the Grand Palace, the Lower town includes quarters such as Ste Catherine and St Gery, the medieval heart of the city. When heading northeast, drop in and shop at Galeries St Hubert and be sure to visit one of the most famous chocolate shops, Neuhaus. East of the Petit ring is Europe’s real-life Gotham City. And don’t forget to head south to Upper town for museum Musee Horta - a fine introduction to Art Nouveau.
