Cheap flights to Frankfurt
Frankfurt is Germany’s fifth largest city and serves as a transport hub, not only for the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region, but for the whole of Germany. It is often referred to as ‘Frankfurt am Main’ due to its position on the Main River and to avoid confusion with a smaller town called Frankfurt near the Polish border. Frankfurt’s skyline of skyscrapers is an attraction in itself and has earned the city the nickname of ‘Mainhattan’, a portmanteau of Manhattan in New York and the city’s own Main River. Also referred to as ‘Bankfurt’ due to its status as the largest financial centre in continental Europe, it can prove a little expensive. Luckily, Student Flights can get you there with plenty of Euros left in your pocket with the cheapest airfares available to Frankfurt.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is the seventh busiest airport in terms of international passengers in the world. The airport is located 12 kilometres southwest of Frankfurt's city centre and is also in close proximity to the famous Autobahn motorway, firming its role as a major transportation hub for the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region of Germany. The airport also has 2 rail stations for local and long-distance travel. The local or regional station connects to downtown Frankfurt using the S-Bahn service in around 10 minutes. The long-distance station offers services to many cities in Germany. Buses and taxis are also available.

Get orientated with the city layout from the almost 200-metre tall Main Tower, a high-rise with public access and a restaurant at the top. Romerberg is a small section of the original old city to explore and is considered the centre of Frankfurt. Surrounding Romerberg are a few iconic Frankfurt landmarks, such as the cathedral to the east and the old town hall, Romer. Another Gothic structure still standing after the 1944 Allied bombings is the Frankfurter Dom with its impressive tower still intact. Arguably Germany’s most important writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, was born in Frankfurt in 1749. His house has been restored and is open to the public. Frankfurt is also known for its apple wine taverns - the best of which can be found across the river in a lively district known as Sachsenhausen.
