Geneva International Airport (GVA), originally named and often still referred to as Cointrin Airport, is located 4 kilometres northwest of the city centre along the Swiss-French border. Flights arrive from both country’s airspace with stunning views of Lake Geneva. Geneva has ground transportation down to a fine art with ticket machines in the customs area gifting free public transport travel to arriving passengers. The airport has its own rail station with regular services to Geneva’s city centre station, Gare de Cornavin. There are also local bus services to downtown and seasonal shuttle services to a goldmine of ski resorts. Most flights from Australia to Geneva will require a stopover in the Middle East otherwise alternative paths are available thorough China, but will add an extra 2 to 3 hours to your journey. Perth is the nearest departure point and extension through Dubai will take around 18 hours. From Adelaide, add an extra 2.5 hours onto the total flight time, from Melbourne add 3 hours, and from Brisbane, an extra 3.5 hours. You can also choose to lay-over in Abu Dhabi instead.
