Mosman Alder's favourite festivals
If you haven't heard of Mosman Alder yet, that's all about to change. The Brisbane based six piece is listed on this year's impressive line up for Splendour in the Grass - an amazing feat for any band, let alone one who has been together for just over a year. If you're a fan of piano melodies mixed with epic harmonies and catchy beats then you'll no doubt love the band's soon to be released EP Burn Bright. We'll admit we're already hooked on their grand tune 'Raisin Heart', an SF office favourite.
So in the spirit of their looming Splendour gig, we asked the band's pianist Katarzyna Wiktorski to lets us in on her favourite festivals.
What would be your top five favourite festivals and why?
1. Splendour in the Grass
Splendour is the only festival I’ve actually attended. It's filled with amazing musicians, lovely people and loads of fun.
I chose Glastonbury mainly because it’s one of the biggest festivals in the world. It has roughly 175,000 people attend each day and a few hundred acts to watch. It would be so exciting with that many people around!
3. South by Southwest (SXSW)
The film, interactive and music festival held in Austin, Texas, features roughly 2000 performers in over 90 venues. The vibe in Austin would be amazing.
4. Burning Man Festival
This festival is held in the Nevada Black Rock Desert and is dedicated to 'community, art, self-expression and self-reliance’. I would love to explore this place, it looks beautiful and interesting.
Chopinlana is an annual festival held in Warsaw, Poland that celebrates the life and music of Frederic Chopin. He was a famous composer from the Romanticism era that heavily influenced me at a young age.
Running with the bulls or la Tomatina?
I probably wouldn’t have the courage at the time but definitely running with the bulls. It would be exhilarating!
If you could play any festival, in the past or future - what would it be?
Glastonbury, Reading, SXSW, Falls Festival, Homebake, Fuji Rock - as many as possible.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Splendour in the Grass?
Smashing Pumpkins, At the Drive In, Tame Impala, Bloc Party, Explosions in the Sky and Dirty Three.
Any festival tips to share?
