How to take the perfect holiday selfie
You've seen the posts. Streaming on your Instagram. Clogging up your Twitter feed. Splashed all over your Facebook updates. Pinned gratuitously to Pinterest. And interrupting your day with cheeky Snapchat shots. Yep, it's the new #foodporn - the #selfie. Those self-congratulatory updates from friends, fam and foes of their idyllic holiday in some far-flung and exotic sun-drenched locale from the perspective of their bikini-clad, bronzed and buff body, most specifically their toes, juxtaposed against an infinity pool/sunlounger/beach towel etcetera etcetera. Envious? Who us? We love looking at these shots of you on holiday while we're working 9-to-5 *ahem*. While we count down the days to our next vacay, here's how we'll be making you green with envy with our perfect selfies.
1. First, you're going to need a holiday.
Yay! Best advice ever, right? To do the holiday #selfie justice, you're going to need to visit a tropical paradise. May we suggest Bali, Koh Samui, the Bahamas or Tahiti (for those overwater bungalows - bonus points!)? But you can also turn your mates into green-eyed monsters with an Instagram shot of you lounging around by a pool in a resort. Think kitschy cool in LA or infinity pools in Singapore. Even a pic of toes in sand in Byron or at Surfers will do the trick when your BFFs are indoors.
2. Then, you'll need a smartphone.
Duh. To work those angles and upload in seconds, get thee a compact smartphone with a great camera, digital zoom and sharp imaging plus the latest photography apps to pimp your pic. Make sure you pick up an international sim card and get global roaming to avoid any surprises nastier than sunburn when you get home.
3. Invest in a faux tan and paint those nails.
Pasty skin and au natural nails are not inspiring anyone to go anywhere except a beautician. The perfect holiday selfie requires bronzed skin (faux tan, of course) and bright nail polish on your toes. A lotion with shimmer will add that extra touch of shine to limbs and skin for that holiday glow. You glow girl!
4. Full body versus toes only.
The holiday selfie is thus called because a) it's a smug shot of you on vacay and b) taken by you. Celebs love to post selfies of their bikini- or boardie-ready bods in luxe locales or just of themselves (hello top selfie-posters Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen and er, Snoop Lion?), but us mere mortals can be content with just flashing our tootsies poolside or by the beach for the desired green-eyed effect. Of course, if you've been busting a gut at the gym and want to show off your Crossfit/yoga/Pilates/ballet barre-toned body, go for it! And send us your social deets!
5. Live in the moment.
Don't get caught in an existential crisis of: "If I don't Instagram/Facebook/pin/tweet/Snapchat this moment, did it happen?". Relax. You're on holiday. Get amongst it. Upload the pic and enjoy the pool/beach/cabana/cocktail/beer. We're not hating on you at all. Just wait 'til you see our updates!

Unusual destinations to tick off in 2016
The most difficult path is the most rewarding. For the intrepid traveller, there is no greater thrill than having the chance to explore a destination seemingly untouched by tourism. Or at least people in your social circle.
Summer music festivals fit for a holiday
Why hold a festival in the middle of the desert? As I applied more sun cream, a teenager was hauled from a crowd being doused with water nearby. Despite the 40-degree heat, those around him were euphoric, arms raised in the fine layer of cooling spray, all eyes on the stage: swaying, singing.
