7 Instagram-worthy beaches you need to visit in Thailand

Published August 3rd, 2015

Thailand is known as ‘the land of smiles’. It is a country steeped in rich culture and traditions with hordes of natural beauty, making it easy to understand why the place has been aptly named as much.

Though the boys in The Hangover paint a hazy picture of boozy nights on cluttered neon lit streets – escaping from the big city of Bangkok to the coast exposes, as Aladdin would sing, ‘a whole new world’.

The beaches and islands boast clear blue skies, fresh salty air and the ombre blue of the Andaman Sea, a recipe for THE perfect Instagram pic! Whilst bigger beach cities like Phuket have become overrun by tourists, these 7 most Instagram worthy beaches in Thailand take you off the beaten track to some of the most pristine spots in South East Asia.

Life’s literally a beach here! So get ready to pull out your iPhone and #selfie yourself at these incredible locations. #nofilter necessary!

1. Haad Phra Nang – Railay, Krabi

Located in the idyllic Krabi province, Railay is a small peninsula between the towns of Krabi and Ao Nang. It is accessible only by boat, the towering limestone cliffs that encase these beaches cut off mainland access. Soak up those hues of emerald green lapping against the magic limestone cliffs. A favorite amongst rock climbing aficionados and beach bums alike!

2. Hat Chao Ley – Ko Lipe

Known colloquially as ‘Sunrise Beach’, this pristine stretch of white sand boasts, as the name suggests, some of the most beautiful sunrises imaginable. The island is actually closer to Malaysia, sweeping you away from the tourist crowds to perfect your Baywatch run along the sand as it meets the clear blue waters undisturbed. Yes please!

3. Ao Maya Beach – Ko Phi Phi Ley

This babe of a beach needs no intro. The famous picturesque cliffs frame the bay so perfectly on three sides, making for the ultimate postcard perfect picture. If this isn’t reason enough to pay a visit, maybe the knowledge that heartthrob Leo DiCaprio has walked these shores for his film The Beach should sway you in the right direction.

The Similan Islands, situated in the Phang Na province, are an archipelago of nine islands. Ao Kuerk, or ‘Donald Duck Bay’ (the stone structure resembles the cartoon character’s head), is located on the biggest island, Ko Similan. You can snap the perfect shot whilst casually perched atop one of the rocks overlooking the blue bay!

5. Koh Ha Yai – Koh Lanta

One of six spots in the Koh Ha marine park, Koh Ha Yai, the largest of the group of islands, is mesmerising both above and below the water. Stay on the beach and feel like a VIP with this private stretch of sand and blue lagoon and giant rocks in front of you. Or, throw on some diving gear and head under water. Check out Cathedral Cavern and Secret Garden and maybe spot a whale shark or two whilst you’re there!

6. Koh Nang Yuan – Koh Tao

Muk means pearl in Thai, spend a day on Hat Farang and you will quickly see why it’s named so. Alternatively, take a kayak deep into Morakot ‘The Emerald’ Cave, where you will feel like Lara Croft or Indiana Jones as you uncover a hidden beach surrounded by emerald green waters completely enclosed by a natural sinkhole.
