Q&A with Lauren and Khy on Busabout Vietnam
Student Flights teamed up with Busabout to send travelling Instagram duo, Lauren (@ gypsea_lust) and Khy (@khyorchard) on an exotic journey through Vietnam, taking in the moody hues of Halong Bay, the chaotic buzz of Ho Chi Minh City, the ancient vibes of Hoi An, the mysterious caves of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng and so much more Vietnam magic.
Here’s what Lauren had to say about the trip, but we think the photos speak for themselves.
All photos taken by Lauren Bullen and Khy Orchard.
Stay tuned for their beautiful videos from the trip – coming soon!
SF: What was the highlight of travelling to Vietnam with Busabout
Lauren: Khy’s highlight was Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng, the mud cave! My highlight would have to be Halong Bay... ahh soo beautiful!
How does a bus tour in Asia differ to a bus tour in Europe?
The Asia tours are much smaller and much more of a tight knit group, which was really nice! We all would do almost everything together; being such a small group you tend to all stick together and get to know one another a lot better!
Hoi An takes the cake for sure! It is such an incredible city, so ancient and a great vibe!

Khy and I went to a vegetarian restaurant in Hoi An, Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant, and both agreed it was our favourite meal! Maybe a little biased as we are vegetarians and they also had 19cent beers!
Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng cave tour. The last cave "dark cave" was so much fun! You end in a big pitch black cave that is just filled with thick mud! At first as you're coming into the mud cave everyone's trying not to touch the walls and the girls are ewwying and squealing as the mud oozes between your toes, but once you're in there everyone is laughing and bathing in the mud!
Where to get in touch with nature in Vietnam?
Dalat. The highlands that surround Dalat, so many waterfalls to explore!
Halong bay 5 words?
Bay of incredible picturesque limestone cliffs.
Craziest thing you saw?
Hanoi-BBQ dog on the side of the road for sale. That's got to be one of the craziest things I've ever seen!
Insider tips you could recommend?
Stay overnight in Halong Bay... Or two nights! Go with Busabout so you too can have the amazing and unique experiences we did! There was lots of laughter and funny times, and the tour is such value for money, do all the add ons!
