If you can't bear to miss barre, and a flop-and-drop vacay has you feeling more stressed than chill, make your way to the #fitspo capital of Los Angeles. Don't be afraid to reach out to gyms and training spaces in LA - you will always be able to try their workouts and everybody here is quite accommodating for travellers. Here are the top 10 free (or cheap) workouts we love in LA.

1. Runyon Canyon Park hike

Sunrise or sunset, this park is free and open to all – including dogs! Degrees of difficulty vary from path to path, take it at your own pace as most trails take around an hour. If you’re up for more, this spot also hosts free yoga!

2. Core Power Yoga class

Looking to reset and unwind? This space on Hollywood Boulevard will help you feel at peace with your travel and fitness goals. There's no pressure to join with a complimentary week of hot yoga. They offer a range of styles with all classes at your fingertips. This is the studio you want to visit to turn your travel stress into sweat!

3. Training Mate class

If you are missing home, make your way to West Hollywood to work out with the Training Mate team - everyone here is from Down Under! A 45-minute HIIT circuit style workout; where every day is different, but always fun and friendly – it will feel like you never left Australia! Your first session is free.

4. Hollywood sign hike

Whether you want to go above or below the sign, you will have a great view and your endurance will be tested! This hike takes time, but is worth the effort to witness this landmark. Head on over to the end of Canyon Drive; give yourself three hours and arm yourself with a camera – you’ll want to appreciate the views.

5. Barry’s Bootcamp class

Energy flows all the way from the seemingly retail storefront to Hollywood Boulevard. Don’t let that fool you! This workout is high-intensity cardio-meets-weights training at a pace. The one-hour class is split into four sessions that will have you running and lifting in 15-minute intervals. Be kind to Barry and you’ll get a complimentary sweat session on your first visit – make sure you stay for the post-workout smoothie!

6. SoulCycle class

Inspiration meets mindfulness in one quick spin of a stationary soul cycle. This class is a total of 45 minutes – unlike RPM, this workout incorporates upper-body strength using hand weights and the whole time you’re positioned on your bike. Get ready to work the mind, body and soul in a candlelit room! The first class is $20, and there's multiple locations – try the studio on Hollywood Boulevard.

7. Venice (Muscle) Beach session

Ever wanted to lift weights where the greats went to work out? You will find your session here at Muscle Beach Gym in Venice. This iconic gym is located outside and available to you for USD$10 a day. You will feel like Arnold with this workout – you must be self-motivated and ready to pump the iron!

8. Venice Beach to Santa Monica Pier bike ride

A must-do for any traveller taking a trip to LA! Head down to Jay’s Rentals in Venice for a bike and a lock for the daily rate of USD$10 for a bike. A round trip of the boardwalk is 45 minutes – I recommend going at sunset, a beautiful way to end your stay! Stop for a coconut along the way at Perry’s Cafe on Ocean Front Walk.

9. Griffith Observatory hike

Take a trip to see the real stars of the sky. This hike will lead you up to the observatory with stunning views of LA and the Hollywood sign along the way. Starting at Los Feliz Boulevard, make your way 4km to the top, then soak in every element. This hike is better then trying to get parking at the observatory! Open 10am to 10pm for general admission.

10. Rise Nation class

Looking for a quick session that will really put you through your paces? Meet your stairway to heaven – Rise Nation is the newest fitness movement to make its way, climbing into the hearts of the community of California. Rise Nation in West Hollywood is a 30-minutes session of climbing stairs in an amazingly ambient room with a great aura. Be prepared for a tough workout with an even greater view at the end when you take a trip and visit the patio that overlooks the Hollywood Hills at the top.
