Tips for an epic 2017 Splendour In The Grass road trip
One of the best parts of the Splendour In The Grass festival is always the build up of excitement and anticipation that gets bundled up into the car brimming with too many pillows, sleeping bags and fifty-one outfit options that you and your mates have each brought along.
After you buckle up but before things get really hectic as you get closer to Byron itself is when you really bond with the mates that are going to be your rock and enabler over the next 3-4 days.
Even before that there’s the mixtape to be made, the decorations for the car, stocking up on food (and maybe trying to hide that 20L of *water*) and then trying to fit all your stuff into the actual car itself.
So here are a few things to remember to pack, see and do before and then on your way to Splendour 2017...alright, alright, alright!
Don’t forget your Camping Ticket!
It’s separate to your festival entry ticket.
Ask one of your super talented friends (or yourself) to braid your hair beforehand so you don’t have to wash your hair in one of those oh so accommodating porta-showers.
Plan each day’s wardrobe
So you don’t end up like this poor soul who didn’t know what to wear so….
Keep it simple when it comes to your food
Cheese toasties are the way to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or maybe just dinner.
Baby wipes and gumboots
There has never been a more glorious use for baby wipes than for when you’re too drunk and tired to have a shower before crashing in your tent. Gumboots are also a good investment for keeping the mud and grime at bay. Unless you go rolling in it, gumboots ain’t really gonna cut it if you’re rollin.
Stop at Macadamia Castle and the Big Banana
Because macadamia and banana stops are the best kind of pit stops.
Make a playlist of all your favourite acts performing
This is the one thing you must remember, the road trip playlist. Get pumped and play all of your favourite LCD Soundsystem, The XX, Vance Joy and Tash Sultana songs on the way there!
Guys and girls need to pack a small bag
Because this year backpacks are banned from entering the festival. In the campsite is fine but all backpacks and any bags over 30cm (l) x 20cm (w) x 5cm (d) will not be allowed into the event area. Time to get out the bumbags aka #fannypacks.
Bring your debit/credit card
Because this year Splendour is doing away with drink tokens so you can now Visa payWave for all of your booze!
Pack a warm af sleeping bag
It gets seriously bloody cold at night in Byron. Nuff said.
