7 places to stay by the sea in Asia

Published December 28th, 2017

There's just something about beach hols in Asia... they're affordable, uber pretty and usually you can get some pretty cool mod cons and experiences to go with. Scuba diving, island-hopping, massages, tuk-tuk rides, infinity pools – you name it. And while we're still in holiday mode and remember how darn GOOD it feels to escape real life and just go with the flow, we thought what better time to start planning before the idea fades.

So with that in mind, here are the stays by the sea that have us drooling right now and off to buy the coolest round – and now square! – beach towels in sight. New bikinis too...

Check out Student Flights latest travel deals here, warning tho, you're going to wanna book asap...

Seminyak… 4-stars, green & leafy, modern Balinese style

Where it's at: Tonys Villas and Resort

You can always rely on Bali for a cheapie but a goodie (Tony too for that matter). What it's also got is location, location, location! In a short walk be shopping, eating and diving into the waves of nice and fancy Seminyak. Or stay in, chill and enjoy the lush foliage, Balinese architecture and included Wi-Fi so you can 'gram cool shots from the pool.

Psssst... get it on sale now = sweet prices (we're talking per night prices on par with a hostel bunk bed in Europe in summer!)

Phuket... hostel-style, funky, party, Patong-vibes

Where it's at: Slumber Party Phuket (formerly Bodega)

If you like your sun, sea and sand with a side of party, you're not the only one. So where else but a tried and tested party hostel to sneak in some zzzzzzzzs wherever you can - if not in your dorm, then in the fab onsite cafe and bar perhaps? Their Phuket pub crawl may take all night but the beach is a five-min walk away. #AdventureHardPartyHarder is what they're all about.

Boracay… 4-stars, 4 pools, 7 eateries, private beach!

Where it’s at: 4-star Fairways & Bluewater Newcoast

So you've heard about the Philippines – the only thing left to do is see it for yourself. And we're not just talkin' any beach, but a PRIVATE, WHITE-sand beach. It's also eco-friendly (tick!) and flaunts a spa, plus a fitness/wellness centre (think the works: hot tub, steam bath, sauna). You can kinda see where this is going... Oh and one more thing – golf anyone? ...Anyone?

Krabi... hostel-style, modern, homey and cosy

Where it's at: Reset Hostel, Krabi, Thailand

The beach is across the road and the modern loft style is super modern but comfy and full of home-like vibes. Word on the street is that it's super clean, the staff uber-helpful and they can show you where to get your yoga on. What more could you want?

Koh Samui… 3.5-stars, coconuts, 2 pools, spa (aahhh!)

Where it’s at: Coconut Beach Resort Samui, Koh Samui, Thailand

Andaman Sea vibes are best soaked up in the midst of fine views... and privacy. Escape to this secluded patch of Thong Tanote Beach on the south-western tip of Koh Samui and be greeted with panoramas across to Koh Tan and Koh Mutsum – two renowned diving and snorkelling spots (or just speedboat right over there and dive in for a close-up). With luxe-feeling natural surrounds, air-con and rooms w private balconies, we're kinda in love.  Yep! So stay 6 and pay for 3!

Sihanoukville... hostel-style, beautiful shores, community #feels

Where it's at: Boho Hostel, Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Get your turquoise water and white sand beach vibes at one of Cambodia's prettiest beaches, away from the mainstream Asia beachgoers. Your reward? A sweet hostel community vibe that looks a little bit like movie nights on the rooftop, jungle parties and traditional Sunday dinners complete with Yorkshire puddings every week. Another highlight? A swimming pool is not far off.

El Nido... hostel-style, famous sunsets, BBQs

Where it's at: Outpost Beach Hostel, El Nido, Philippines

It's the only hostel in Palawan so you can see why it's so popular. Actually, there's one other reason: it's right on Corong-Corong Beach, famous around the world for its flabbergasting sunsets. Spend your days sun-seeking and join the crew for cocktails at the bar by night. Time it right and on Sundays the big BBQs are a sure hit.
