Epic rooftop bars for sunset drinks in LA, NYC and Vegas, baby

Published August 10th, 2018

Once golden hour hits, there’s only one place to go, and that’s straight up. Flock to the rooftops where the Insta-worthy panoramas claim epic crowds, the vibes are intoxicating, and the cocktails are forever flowing.

When the sun dips below the horizon of famous US cities like LA, NYC and Vegas, you want to see it. You NEED to see it. Those skylines, you’ll never forget.

Thankfully there are stacks of unforgettable rooftop bars to get amongst it. Here’s a peek at our faves that you’re bound to love.

Los Angeles

The Upstairs Bar at Ace Hotel – Downtown LA
How about a sunset refresher on the 14th floor roof of a 1927 Spanish Gothic building in this hipster-infused locale? Sound pretty good? And that’s just the outside. Inside, it’s all Moroccan kilim cushions and ceramic lanterns, gorgeous awnings over the deck and a pool circled by teak sun lounges. It’s almost like a scene out of GOT. Really…need we say more? #queenlyf

Pearl's Rooftop -  on the Sunset Strip

When in La-La Land, views of that famed Sunset Strip lit up all bright and neon are a must. For that we recommend Pearl’s Rooftop, where the views are super fine, the fireplace is warm and the signature Pink Pearl cocktail poses the perfect combo of gin, aperol, grapefruit, rosé and sweet, sweet prosecco.

High at Hotel Erwin – Venice Beach

Keen to check out those famed, powdery stretches of Venice Beach from above? This is literally the ONLY rooftop bar in the area – and it’s ALWAYS going off. The epic sunset views keep coming year-round, the drinks are always flowing (try the jalapeno strawberry margarita or grab one of the local brewery beers) and the bar is no stranger to live DJ sets that fill the salty air with mega chilled out vibes.

New York City

Mr. Purple at Hotel Indigo – Lower East Side Manhattan

Nowhere else does sweeping panoramas of downtown Manhattan like this 15th-floor gem of a find. With a huge deck and outdoor bar, dangling party lights and a pool that’s just perfect for the summer months, it sets the scene for the kind of post-adventure bevvies you can usually only dream about. It’s stylish without being pretentious and the views will make you go ‘OMG!’.

The Jane Rooftop at The Jane Hotel – Downtown Manhattan

In an historic red-brick Landmark building in NYC’s trendy West Village area, discover this bohemian cocktail den. Our cocktail pick? The one and only West Street Sunset – tequila, blackberry brandy and orange bitters. There’s just one catch: the bar is reservation only (and for good reason!), so call ahead.

The Skylark, Manhattan (Midtown)

Want iconic landmarks in those NYC views? The Skylark is your bae. We’re talkin’ Times Square, the Empire State Building and the Hudson River. Raining? Head downstairs to the Mad Men-esque lounge where it’s all Midcentury Modern appeal.

Ides at the Wythe Hotel, Brooklyn, NY

Because anybody in the know, knows it’s not all about Manhattan. Brooklyn is so on point RN. At this industrial-chic hotel bar, the queue outside says it all: this is where it’s at. Expect sweet ambient beats, amazing drinks and great eats too. And what about the views? Your Insta feed will go bonkers over these Manhattan skyline panoramas from across the water.

Las Vegas

Voodoo Rooftop Nightclub & Lounge – Las Vegas

See Sin City the way every traveller should. Because once the sun goes down, the cityscape takes on a whole new life as the neon lights start to flash down below. At this rooftop deck lounge, you’ll be 51 floors above it all. Plus, on weekends, it’s the perfect place to dance.

Drai’s Beach Club at the Cromwell – Las Vegas

Let’s just put it this way: 65,000 square feet, 150 VIP cabanas and tables, Vegas’ only rooftop pool, and musical production by the same guy behind the Electric Daisy Carnival music fest. Add to that an after-hours swim party, palm trees, and booze that flows day and night – and what else is there to say?

Tijana Jaksic

After some hardcore scrimping and saving, Tijana’s first backpacking trip confirmed she was onto something good. She hasn’t stopped since. Fave memories to date include dancing with locals in the streets of Havana, bartering for too many scarves in the markets of India, getting lost in the bustle of Hong Kong, sipping cocktails in the Greek Islands and jumping off waterfalls in Croatia. Now she gets to write about travel for a living – the best way to satiate the wanderlust between adventures.
