10 reasons why you need a holiday in 2019

Published December 18th, 2018

Hanging out for a holiday? 2019 is nearly here (can you smell it?). And after making it through the last year we ALL deserve a holiday, because 2018 was a BIG year. Amiright?

Still need convincing? Here are 10 undeniable reasons why a holiday is a grand idea in 2019.

1. It’s the best possible highlight to look forward to

Life is better when you have something great to look forward to. And nothing beats daydreaming about an upcoming holiday when life gets tough/busy/boring. Just picture it: swaying palms, dreamy azure seas and party boats (hello Phuket). Shopping, giant buddhas and steamy rooftop bars (yas Bangkok). Cute fashions, cat cafes and famous icons (oh Japan!). Aahhh, we feel better already.

2. To spend quality time with friends

Squeezing in quality time with your friends can be hard to organise. So why not do something fun and get out of town as a group? Head to the Aussie Outback. Cross the ditch to New Zealand to slay their mountains and waterfalls and sip coffee in their cool, hip cities. Or do a 100% resort flop’n’drop holiday by the beach in Thailand. Now THAT’s quality time. The kind you won’t forget.

3. To get cultured

Never been overseas? Or haven’t seen enough of it yet? There are always more temples to admire, beaches to wander, bars to try and cities to get lost in – all in the name of adventure. #neverstoptravelling

4. To go back for round two with your new travel buddies

Did you happen to meet some epic new travel buddies on your last trip? But you all live in different cities/countries? That’s always the way, so why not meet up for round two? You already know you travel well together, so the good times come guaranteed. Think sailing trips through Phuket, island-hopping around Bali, and legendary ski holidays to Japan.

5. Because science says holidays are good for you

Even science has proven that holidays make you more chill, sleep better, be more productive, and just generally make you healthier. Science also shows that spending those hard-earned dollars on experiences over material ‘things’ is much more likely to bring the kind of happiness that lasts. Why? Because you’ll have epic memories to look back on for years to come that’ll make you grin. Don’t question the science.

6. To escape it all and disconnect

Scrolling, swiping right, double-tapping and snapping between all that studying, working, mingling and partying can get pretty full on. Life is busy. So it’s never a bad idea to take a break from the real world and switch off completely in some beautiful exotic locale. Suddenly, the hours seem so long when you’re in the sun, meeting new people IRL and exploring on whim.

7. For some life inspiration

Need inspo? Don’t know what to do with your life? Or just need to mix things up a bit? Nothing beats a change of scenery to make you feel alive again and get the ideas flowing. When everything around you is new – the flavours, the sights, the smells, the scenery – it’s impossible to not feel inspired. A holiday is the perfect muse.

8. Because you don’t even have to go far

It’s true. Overseas holidays are the best holidays. But there are still tonnes of awesome trips and unforgettable adventures to be had in our own backyard. Tassie is ripe for eating, drinking, driving and soaking up all that nature. Byron Bay is always a good idea. And our red dusty plains are full of yet-to-be-made-discoveries. If overseas is out of the question, you can always holiday at home.

9. Because you can always book now, pay later

Need time to save? No fret. All you need is a deposit to secure your travel now, giving you the freedom and flexibility to pay the rest off later. Don’t wait for ‘someday’, layby your next holiday today!

10. Because young + free

Why else? Make the most of it!

After some hardcore scrimping and saving, Tijana’s first backpacking trip confirmed she was onto something good. She hasn’t stopped since. Fave memories to date include dancing with locals in the streets of Havana, bartering for too many scarves in the markets of India, getting lost in the bustle of Hong Kong, sipping cocktails in the Greek Islands and jumping off waterfalls in Croatia. Now she gets to write about travel for a living – the best way to satiate the wanderlust between adventures.
